A Journey with me in Paris Fashion Week

Before the First Shot

How My Day Begins at Fashion Week

The alarm rings long before Paris wakes up. By the time morning light begins to filter through the Haussmann rooftops, I am already checking my equipment — bodies, lenses, batteries, cards — running through a checklist that has become second nature. Fashion Week demands total readiness. There is no room for error when the window of perfect light lasts thirty seconds.

My first client of the day usually meets me near a location we have scouted together in advance — a quiet courtyard in the Marais, a golden-hour stretch of the Concorde place, a rain-slicked boulevard where the reflections double everything. The preparation begins weeks before: understanding what my client wants to feel in their images, what they will be wearing, what story they want to tell.

TIP Preparation begins weeks before the session — understanding what my client wants to feel in their images, what they will be wearing, what story they want to tell.

Behind the Lens

What a Session Really Looks Like

People often imagine a photo session as a rigid, choreographed affair. In reality, my approach is closer to a conversation. I guide my clients — gently, with direction — but I am always listening for the unscripted moment, the half-laugh, the glance over the shoulder, the quiet pause between poses. Those are the images that endure.

“The best fashion photograph is not about the clothes alone — it is about the person wearing them, and the story they carry into the frame.”

During Fashion Week, the city itself becomes a collaborator. I read the light constantly — the way it falls through a gap in the buildings, the bounce off a pale stone facade, the soft diffusion of an overcast Parisian sky that flatters every skin tone. I choose locations that complement my client’s aesthetic rather than compete with it.

TIP A typical session covers one to three locations over one to two hours — delivering a range of moods, from strong and confident to intimate and soft.

5 Mistakes to Avoid

When Choosing Your Photographer

Paris Fashion Week attracts thousands of photographers. Not all of them are right for you — and knowing what to look for can mean the difference between images you treasure forever and images you quietly forget.

1
Booking too late The best photographers are fully booked 2–3 months before Fashion Week. Waiting means settling for whoever is still available.
2
Not briefing your photographer Come prepared with references, mood, and outfits. The clearer the brief, the stronger the result.
3
Choosing a generalist Fashion photography requires a specific eye — for light, fabric, movement, and natural direction of subjects.
4
Ignoring location The right backdrop complements your style rather than overwhelming it. Ask how your photographer scouts locations.
5
Deciding on price alone Study portfolios for consistency, style, and the ability to make subjects look genuinely at ease — not just the price tag.
TIP The difference between a memorable session and a forgettable one is almost never the budget — it is the preparation and the connection.

Why Paris Fashion Week is Different

Unlike Anything Else in the World

There are fashion weeks in New York, London, and Milan. But Paris is different — it always has been. Something in the air, the quality of the light, the architecture, the particular way Parisians carry themselves, elevates every image made here during this week to something beyond the ordinary.

The streets become a runway. Every corner holds a potential photograph. The energy is contagious — even the most camera-shy client tends to relax into themselves here, carried by the collective electricity of the week. Inhibitions dissolve. Confidence rises. And that is exactly when the most extraordinary images are made.

NOTE For me, this week is a reminder of why I became a photographer — to freeze something fleeting, something beautiful, that would otherwise vanish the moment the season turns.

What to Look For in a Photographer

The Six Qualities That Matter Most

Beyond avoiding the common mistakes, there are specific qualities worth seeking out when choosing the person who will photograph you during the most stylish week of the year.

Consistent portfolio A recognisable aesthetic — not a collection of random styles.
Directing people Making subjects feel comfortable and look naturally at ease.
Knowledge of Paris Light, hidden courtyards, best angles — intimate city knowledge.
Fast delivery Fashion Week images have a short window. Days, not weeks.
Clear communication If pre-session communication is vague, the images often reflect that.
Genuine passion Look for someone who speaks about their work with specificity — not just rates and packages.
TIP The photographers who love what they do produce images that feel alive. Look for someone who speaks about their work with specificity and enthusiasm.
